All-State Players

The Associated Press (aka AP) and United Press International (aka UPI) began naming a High School All-Star Team in the late 1920’s. By the 1940’s Ohio was divided into two divisions; a Class A for large schools and Class B for smaller schools. By the 1950’s it was reclassified to A and AA. By the 1970’s three classifications were introduced A, AA, and AAA as the number of schools playing interscholastic sports increased. By the late 70’s when post season playoffs came on the scene football was broken into five divisions and the All-State team followed. In 1994, the OHSAA added a sixth division in football and in 2014 a seventh division was added thus increasing the number of All-State players also.
